O
ne of my favourite anime series of
recent years,
Blue Exorcist
gets a
collected release on both DVD and
beautiful Bu-ray. Rin Okumura and his brother
Yukio, the goodie-two-shoes of the pair, follow
in the footsteps of their adoptive father. The
catch is that they find themselves battling Rin's
biological father, Satan. You may have heard
of him. Big, horned, a bit of a
grump.
We all have some memories
that we wish we could forget,
but in
Golden Time
, Banri
just wishes that he could
remember. A freshman at a
Tokyo law school, he happens
upon Mitsuo and it seems as
though they were fated to be
together. Or are they? Not only
is
Golden Time
a wonderful love
story, but it also raises some
pertinent questions about love,
destiny and happenstance.
With nary a hamster in sight,
Hamatora
is
in fact a clandestine private detective agency
manned by super-powered private dicks, and
handsome ones at that. The only catch is that
they don't take any old case. They actually have
to be interested, so you'd better step
up with something juicy – and juicy is
what we get when the group investigate
the serial murders of fellow supers, also
known as Minimum Holders.
Sunday Without God
tells the story
of a God who packs up its bat and ball
and goes home. It closes heaven and
leaves the dead unable to rest, while
the living find themselves unable to
reproduce. As time passes by, humanity
finds itself creeping closer and closer
to extinction. But what exactly does
extinction mean when the dead have nowhere
to go?
It seems timely that we receive the
Complete Collection of Robotics; Notes
at a
time when Japan has promised us a full-sized,
fully functioning Mobile Suit. But of course
there's more to this series than giant fighting
robots, it's also filled with
mystery, intrigue and friendship
through adversity.
It's rather rare for long-running
shonen series to still kick butt
once the episode count gets
into the hundreds, but
Fairy
Tail Collection 17
breaks the
mould. The Grand Magic Games
arc comes to a fiery and exciting
end with new enemies and allies
from unlikely sources.
In an episode of many faces,
Code Geass: Akito the Exiled
- Episode 3
has W-O taking on
the carefree lifestyle of wandering gypsies,
Leila taking a one-woman fight to a terrorist
organisation, and Shin making a move to take
control of the entirety of Euro Britannia. And all
of this in a meagre 51 minutes!
ANIME
ROUND-UP
Blue Exorcist
XXXXXXX
Laughter is never a bad thing,
unless you're at a funeral. Trust
me. Also, sorry Uncle Bob. So start
the year with these side-splitting
series.
Gintama
is without a doubt one of the
funniest and most inappropriate series
to ever assault my eyeballs. Truly, I'm
talking God-level funny. Unfortunately
only the movie is available locally, but
surely with enough interest in the movie,
the series could get picked up too. Vote
with your wallets, people!
Another absurd comedy,
Azumanga
Daioh
, may seem like a less crazy
version of
Nichijou
, but trust me it's
equally as nutty and hilarious to boot.
Okay, so this may have
just been a way for me
to mention
Nichijou
again. If you haven't
seen this totally
random nugget of
awesomeness yet,
get it. Then I'll finally
leave you alone.
If you're looking for something which
is as pervy as it is funny,
Heaven's
Lost Property
is where it's at. The main
character, Tomoki Sakurai, makes no
bones about perversion and wears his
devo badge with honour.
It's truly cringeworthy
and laugh-out-
loud funny.
