Metal Gear SolidV:
The Phantom Pain
Despite its creator, Hideo Kojima,
being removed from its packaging,
MGSV:TPP held its standard
as a genre-defining stealth
game, following “that guy in the
cardboard box”, and closing out
the Metal Gear franchise with a
metaphorical bang.
Bloodborne
FromSoftware’s new IP
Bloodborne
is set in a gothic city
overflowing with fear, where you
are tasked with discovering the
cause of a terrifying disease that
is sweeping the nation. Taking
the beloved formula from its
Souls series and applying it here
makes for a terrifyingly enjoyable
experience.
TheWitcher 3:Wild Hunt
Geralt of Rivia and his luscious
grey locks returned in 2015.
The Witcher 3
blew us away
as an immersive, choice-based
experience in a massive open
world. It tugged at all your
heartstrings while we tugged at
the jugular of a bear.
Batman: Arkham Knight
The Bat returned to protect
Gotham, and did so in spectacular
fashion. Taking to the skies or
cruising in the newly-refurbished
Batmobile, it was bloody good to
be Batman.
Until Dawn
Supermassive Games’
Until Dawn
is essentially a walking simulator
designed to scare the pants off
you at every possible opportunity.
Every choice you make leaves you
wondering what it was that led
your friends to their doom. Good
luck keeping your conscience
intact after this one.
Super Mario Maker
Guaranteed, you’ll also have
come across a Mario level or
two that you absolutely abhorred
and cursed its creators for. In
2015, Nintendo gave us the
chance to rectify that with Super
Mario Maker
, where you can
determine your own lovable Mario
experience, crafting levels from
scratch or playing those of others.
It’s go(omba) time.
Destiny:TheTaken King
DLC so darn good that we had to
include it. Year Two Destiny has
completely replaced Dinklebot
with Uncharted’s Nolan North,
adding Nathan Fillion as sass
king of the universe. Bungie have
finally released the product they
promised us back in ‘14. They will
try to kill you – kill them back.
Halo 5: Guardians
It’s been a long time coming, but
343 finally got around to releasing
a Halo game for the Xbox One.
All we have to say is, it’s worth
the wait. Master Chief has gone
AWOL, and it’s up to ONI’s Spartan
Jameson Locke and Fireteam
Osiris to find John and bring him
home. Not to mention the massive
online 12v12 multiplayer. Suit up,
Spartans.
StarWars: Battlefront
EA and DICE’s Battlefront is the
result of a lot of hard work from a
highly devout team of game devs/
Star Wars fanatics. The multiplayer
transports you to your favourite
planets to play as either the
Rebels or the Imperials, and it’s
mind-blowing. This was the game
you’re looking for.
What a year that was! Bethesda held their first ever E3 conference, we visited Paris GamesWeek,
we almost vomited playingVR games... and we loved every minute of it. In December we sat
down to look at the games of 2015, and picked the ten we considered to be the best.
Fallout 4 - GOTY
Having released
The Elder Scrolls
Online: Tamriel Unlimited
on PC
in 2014 and finally on consoles in
2015, Bethesda have kept the ball
rolling by astounding everyone at E3
and dropping
Fallout 4
in November
the same year. Be prepared to lose
endless hours of your life to this
beautifully crafted Wasteland, as you
take on raiders, pick locks, play with
your Pip-boy, battle Deathclaws, and
fight your own hoarding impulses.
A game of the year that takes
the better part of a year to enjoy.
Welcome home.
