Course Outline
The Statistics course builds on some of the data handling elements of GCSE Maths
and encourages students to question statements made in the media. Students are
taught statistical sampling and analytical techniques which will help them with A-level
modules and any aspect of a university research dissertation. Students enjoy the
challenge of calculating Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient and find this a
useful tool for investigating the strength of a correlation between two variables in
many applied subject areas.
Expectations
All students who take this course are expected to aim for the highest grade possible.
Students will be expected to apply and extend their knowledge from the GCSE
Maths course and work independently outside of the lesson to ensure they become
confident with the key skills.
Clubs and Activities
Pi Club – Year 11 students meet over hot chocolate and a croissant to work on key
areas to enable them to make further improvements towards their GCSE (Thursdays
7.50 – 8.25am in room 32).
