Tube Clean GmbH has developed
several manufacturing processes for
producing virgin foam based on special
developed formulas. It offers five types
of projectiles, varying in density, porosity
and surface structure.
The CE-System comes with a
handheld launcher and a series of
nozzles as well as manual operating
and single projectile feeding, standard
nozzles designed to fit hoses and tubes,
JIC, BSP and metric fittings ranging
from 2mm to 60mm. Customised sizes
are available up to 250mm.

WITH more than 25 years of experience
in designing and manufacturing eddy
current and ultrasonic instruments and
systems, Contrôle Mesure Systèmes
(CMS) installs worldwide its ultrasonic
rotating head, designed for special steel
tube manufacturers such as stainless
steel, titanium, zirconium and carbon
steel.
RotoUTscan, the result of several
years of R&D, allows testing of a large
diameter range from 6 to 250mm, and
detects longitudinal and transversal
defects, thickness measurement, OD-ID
and ovalisation.
Advantages include four inspection
targets in one system; modularity –
each block can be changed separately;
resolution up to 1µm; accuracy up to
±2µm; min OD 6mm and WT 0.4mm;
and min flaw depth 5 per cent or 10 per
cent WT.
Due to its flexibility, RotoUTscan
can be adapted to all customers’
configurations.
Installed in a strong control bench
it can be combined with eddy current
systems allowing a full-body inspection
of the tube.
Probus supervision software collects
data provided by NDT equipment,
displays combined signals (UT/ET)
and creates inspection reports that can
be used as control evidence for quality
services and customers. Data stored
can be recalled for analysis and quality
treatment.
CMS’s instruments and systems
include magnetising and demagnetising
units, probes and accessories, and EC
rotating head RotoETscan.

IN most cases today a tube is a semi-
manufactured product, which has
to undergo further processing until
it becomes the final product. Tube
manufacturing itself is only one part of
a comprehensive process chain. The
concept of multifunctional roll forming is
based on an integration of down-stream
processes into the tube mill. A tube
manufacturer and its client can benefit
from this development. A reduction of
the number of processes in a process
chain always means cost reduction. The
capability to supply value-added tubes
opens up new market opportunities for
tube manufacturers.
Multifunctional roll forming means
to integrate additional processes like
piercing, notching, embossing, fixing
nuts or bolts and many other processes
into tube mills. If such an integration was
done in the past it was dedicated for one
specific product only. Multifunctional roll
forming is completely different. Because
any of the above mentioned operations
can be integrated highly flexibly at any
position within the machine only by
exchanging work modules.
Such work modules have the same
size as a Dreistern roll forming tool
cassette. In the same way an operator
is changing a roll forming tool cassette,
he can now also change work modules.
In order to achieve an even higher
flexibility such work modules can also
be exchanged between different tube
mills or roll forming machines. For that
reason they are equipped with separate
control units with standard interfaces
which can communicate with the main
machine control.
The advantage of such a solution is
obvious. Multifunctional machines can
be configured precisely and rapidly
according to the actual requirements of
a new product. The footprint of such a
machine can be reduced by 30 per cent
to 50 per cent compared to conventional
technology.
No
redundant
line
component whatsoever is increasing
the machine-hour rate. This was the
objective of the Dreistern development:
more flexibility, but less cost and less
required space.
At Tube 2014 in Düsseldorf, Dreistern
offers the opportunity to study a tube
mill equipped with multifunctional roll
forming.
