Haven has demonstrated both
flexibility and customer-orientated
philosophy through its successful
collaborations with other process
equipment manufacturers.
According to Dave Erickson, president
of Haven, “Industry professionals think
of Haven as the leading manufacturer
of tube cutting equipment. We remain
committed to our traditional markets,
but our experience in designing and
manufacturing systems for material
handling appeals to manufacturers
beyond our traditional market segments.
Haven’s ability to adapt to a variety of
industries and applications, combined
with our company’s capability to
design and build special one-of-a-kind
machines and handling systems, gives
Haven the ability to help manufacturers
that might not be as familiar with our
products.”

HKS-Prozesstechnik GmbH

Germany
HKS-Prozesstechnik GmbH is a
specialist in the field of welding
monitoring and measuring systems,
delivering improvements in weld quality.
Welded tubes can pass dimensional
inspection, but have incomplete fusion,
which can fracture under stress when
put to use. In ERW/HFI welding, a main
cause is too low or too high heat input
or input material non-conformance.
Analysing the weld seam and quality
via the thermal properties creates
new detection possibilities such as
penetration faults, or the weld seam
heat distribution can be recognised
during production. Complete tube length
data is documented and archived for
traceability.
Thermo profile measurement to identify
penetration faults in laser welding
The development of a thermo profile
measuring system that can be used
directly after the welding process
allows in-line non-destructive testing of
the welds by means of thermography.
The ThermoProfileScanner is able to
substitute in-line systems such as eddy
current and ultrasonic.
With HFI welding cold welds
(cold shuts) can be recognised and
prevented. For TIG/plasma applications,
in-line control of penetration is possible.
Unsymmetrical penetration is detected,
which can be also caused by arc
deviations.
The optics developed for laser welding
processes allow the recognition of pores
and ‘out-of-positions’ of 5/100mm only
from the temperature field.
All systems evaluate the welding
quality automatically and enable
universal documentation of the
temperature fields.

Iron’s Technology Srl

IRON’S Technology will be displaying
its metal tube plastic deformation
machine. The MAS-1 is able to realise
optimal shaped tubes from off-the-shelf
production tubes.
The machine has two forming tools
working in opposition and translating
along the main axis. The pipe is locked
between two grip spindles or clamps
and has the possibility of rotating
around its axis, so it is machined in cold
deformation.
The combination of pipe rotation and
forming tools translation allows many
different deformations on the tube, and
offers multiple machining possibilities
with a variety of shapes and pitch,
suitable for various sectors, from heat
exchange to structural construction.
The rotation of the pipe and transfer
of the carriage are driven by a Fanuc-
FA brushless motor, for guaranteed
positioning
and
interpolation
repeatability. The tool heads are
available with pneumatic or oleo
dynamics actuator and proportional
control, adding power and precision to
the applied tools.
The machine carriage, designed
and built with the same quality criteria
as the bench, is available in various
dimensions: the S series, with one only
vertical head, needs little space and has
a light structure, while the more powerful
EL and HT series require more housing
space and a larger support structure.
The economical and compact S series
has a single head and can perform
simple machining operations quickly
and precisely. It can machine pipes up
to 2mm thick, with maximum diameter
of 30mm.
The EL series is configurable to the
user’s needs. All the accessories are
designed and produced on the basis
of shapes that have to be realised.
This version can machine pipes up to
5mm thick, with maximum diameter of
250mm.
The HT series is the most powerful,
and has many customised accessories.
It can machine pipes up to 10mm thick,
with maximum diameter of 500mm.

THE efficiency of welding processes
primarily depends on the quality of
the process material. The production
of welded tubes has shown that the
condition of the strip edge is decisive
for the quality of the weld seam and the
effectiveness of the welding process.
Slit strip is generally the base for
welding of tubes. The slit strip edge
is usually irregular in regards to
straightness, angle, width and structure.
Coatings also affect the welding process.
Mechanical edge trimming optimises
the angle of the edge, and removes
the burr and any cavity. This allows
a superb facing to the edges for any
welding process to achieve a solid and
dense weld seam.
At Tube 2014 in Düsseldorf Julius will
present the newest version of the strip
edge trimming machine. The machine
treats the strip edges with six tools. It is
