Line
Pipe (SMLP) in Siegen, Germany, has
taken a globally unique Hydro Testing
Machine from spiral pipe manufacturer
PWS, Germany, into operation. With
the testing strategy of the facility up to
three pipes with different length can
be tested simultaneously at three test
stations in parallel with a total cycle
time of 48 seconds (for 16"/12m) –
more than 30 per cent less than before.
The hydrotester supplied by PWS
covers a diameter range from 4.5 to
16" with a wall thickness between 2.6
and 16mm. The length can vary from
9.7 to 18m. Simultaneous testing with
different diameters and lengths is also
possible. Each section can be con-
trolled individually and independently.
Maximum test pressure is 500 bar, with
a tolerance of ±1 bar, for material grades
X80 or N80 resp.
“The new facility is a marked
improvement on the strategy for
hydrotesting and pipe manufacture.
Shorter pipe lengths in themanufacturing
process no longer have to be separated
for testing at a later time, thus ensuring
a substantial advantage for production
logistics and throughput. The technology
package is rounded off by a very fast
and highly precise pressure control
system,” said Michael Stark from PWS.
Thanks to the use of modern
technology the up-to-date hydrotesting
facility provides high flexibility and
a high level of efficiency. Due to the
automated plant and quick filling of
the pipes SMLP achieves a significant
reduction of the cycle time of 30 per
cent. The new hydrostatic press also
meets future requirements with regard
to safety, flexibility and productivity.
During setup and commissioning
of the new equipment the ongoing
production was not interrupted.
The facility came on stream in the
second quarter of 2013.

Global meeting of tube industry
THE leading trade fair Tube Düsseldorf
will be staged – for the 14
th
time – at the
Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre from 7 to 11
April 2014. With a total net floor space
of more than 100,000m
2
organisers
Messe Düsseldorf will showcase the
accumulated technology prowess of
the world’s tube manufacturing and
processing sectors. More than 2,500
exhibitors will attend to present the
latest technologies and products at the
Düsseldorf fairground.
The Tube event will present its 2014
ranges in Halls 1 to 7 and Hall 7a.
The sector’s entire range will be on
display, from tube manufacturing to tube
processing and finishing. For the first
time, a special show called the Plastic
Tube Forum will be staged in Hall 7.1.
Additional exhibits will range from tube
materials, tubes and accessories, tube
manufacturing machinery and second-
hand equipment to process engineering
tools and auxiliary components all
the way through to measurement and
control technology. Test technology
and specialised areas such as stock
automation and control systems will
supplement the extensive ranges.
Tube accessories will be found in
Halls 1 and 2, whereas tube trading and
manufacturing will be located in Halls 2
to 4 and Hall 7/7.1. Also in Hall 2, visitors
will find the China Pavilion.
Innovative solutions from the
cable, measurement, control and test
engineering sectors round off the
portfolio, and specialised sectors such
as logistics, conveying systems and
packaging will also be represented.
Pipe and tube processing machinery
will be in Halls 6 and 7a. The plant and
machinery area will be in Hall 7a. The
new Plastic Tube Forum will be located
in Hall 7.1.
