Linear cage forming tube mills
OLIMPIA 80 has signed two orders for
linear cage forming tube mills that will
produce square and rectangular tube
sections in carbon steel material.
The company said the deal is a
result of plans for the technology that
it proposed many years ago. It said the
market is now ready to consider the
advantage of the linear cage forming
technology instead of more traditional
methods. With this composition the
mill can produce all the square and
rectangular tubes within the size range
without changing any roll in forming,
welding, sizing, straightening and
cutting sections. The average time
of changing tube dimensions is 15
minutes.
The main characteristics of this
technology are: simplicity and rapidity
in changing diameter; very simple and
easy maintenance; simplicity in the
software utilisation; the mill allows users
to produce both square and rectangular
tubes by means
of a computerised
control able to save
the production data
in ways that can
be easily recalled;
and it is possible to
create a particular
“shape” with different
angles. From the PC
it is possible to see
the “tube flower” of
the tube you want
to produce; tube OD
changing time for the forming section is
about three to five minutes.
One line is for square sections from
30x30 up to 80x80mm and rectangular
sections from 40x30mm to 110x30mm
sections in a thickness range from 1mm
to 6mm, with max speed 120m/min.
The other line can produce square
sections from 40x40 up to 120x120mm
and rectangular sections from 40x30
mm to 160x80mm, in a thickness range
from 1.5mm to 8mm with max speed
90m/min. Both lines will be assembled
in Olimpia 80’s plant in Piacenza, Italy.
Four similar lines with linear cage
forming technology are installed in
Italy, Turkey, USA and Germany, and
in addition to the two lines described
above, there was a recent order for
a cage forming mill for round tube
sections for the automotive industry at a
European company.
