Major contract for ‘largest
section bending machine in the
world’ secured by AMOB
AMOB, Portugal, has secured and
executed a major contract for what it
describes as the largest section bending
machine in the world. The machine was
developed for one of the world’s largest
companies in fields such as cement,
mining, oil, gas and petrochemical.
AMOB’s scope of work in this contract
included design, manufacture, supply,
installation and maintenance, as well
as engineering consultancy targeting
reduced cycle times and providing
accurate and repeated bends of large
mild steel profiles with tight plane and
radius tolerances.
The gigantic machine was designed
and built in AMOB’s recently renewed
16,000m
2
production facilities in Portugal.
It includes a 175-ton frame, 540mm
shafts and 238kW installed power, and
will be transported in five trucks. The
result is a machine with 20,000cm
3
section modulus and the capacity to
bend up to 440x440mm bar as well as
HEB1000 with residual material waste.
AMOB’s CEO commented, “Whereas
press forming of these work pieces
takes around nine hours, our customers
require an average of only 12 minutes
for one bend. In 53 years of experience
we have been developing and producing
cold bending machines designed
especially for heavy duty applications;
this was one more step forward in our
continuous progress.”
AMOB provides a specialised range for
tube and pipe bending, section bending
and swaging, from simple manual
equipment to complex and easy-to-
operate CNC solutions, covering market
fields such as automotive, petrol and
offshore, aeronautics, shipyard, furniture,
construction, power plants, chemical
industry, steel structures and agriculture.
The company also produces other
machinery types, such as roll forming
lines, hydraulic single- and double-
action deep drawing presses, and
stone processing machines.
AMOB is directly based in four
countries, with two factories in Portugal
and commercial facilities in Russia,
Brazil and Spain. A worldwide network
of 71 agencies and technical centres
provides customer support on a local
basis.
