REMOTE visual inspection technology expert Olympus has
launched the IPLEX RX and IPLEX RT industrial videoscopes for
the remote visual inspection of parts and areas that are difficult to
reach. They feature an ultra-bright LED light system and a high-
resolution CCD chip intelligently controlled by the PulsarPic™
image processor to render very clear and sharply defined images,
making the detection of tiny defects more efficient. The PulsarPic
processor reduces noise and sharpens images, resulting in high-
resolution images for inspections in low-light conditions. The new
LED illumination system is nearly twice as bright as conventional
videoscopes and dynamically adjusts light output to reduce
halation from metal or reflective surfaces.
The IPLEX RX and RT are compact, field-portable videoscopes
that have a 6.5" screen with an anti-reflective daylight-view mon-
itor, permitting accurate inspections even in direct sunlight. The
scopes are suitable for various applications where operator ac-
cess is limited, ranging from
boilers to airplane fuselages
and engines, and
wind turbine gear-
boxes.
The
IPLEX
RX
and
RT
provide
rugged
durability in harsh
e n v i r o nme n t s .
They comply with IP55 standards and with United States
Defense Standards MIL-STD-810F, Method 506.4 and 510.4 for
resistance to dust and rain, and with MIL-STD-810G, Method
516.5 for the 1.2-metre drop test.
Most operations and features can be accessed by a single press
of the quick-access buttons on the ergonomic, lightweight handset,
which also houses the Olympus power-assist TrueFeel™ scope
articulation control, while an intuitive icon-based menu makes it
easy for the operator to quickly select the right menu option. The
IPLEX RX features WiDER™ (wide dynamic extended range)
image processing capability that brings out detail in shadowed
and highlighted areas to produce bright, contrast-balanced
images across the entire depth of field. The IPLEX RX also
features user-selectable colour and sharpness settings, providing
a customisable image to suit the application.
The IPLEX RX and RT feature high-quality JPEG still images
and AVI movies that record directly to a removable USB flash
drive. Saving or retrieving images requires a single button press,
while the thumbnail view allows instant review of inspection
results. The InHelp inspection-assist software, which is standard
on the IPLEX RX and RT, improves work efficiency and simplifies
inspections by streamlining data and organising stored images.
In May 2014, Olympus is scheduled to offer the advanced
Olympus-pioneered Stereo Measurement technology as an
additional capability of the IPLEX RX, which enables high-
resolution image capture with two parallax lenses, permitting
accurate measurement of almost any object from any angle.

Putting the smarter heat to smarter use
This is not a pipe.
It’s actually an entry ticket to huge markets. Because what
you’re looking at is a longitudinally welded pipe that’s been
normalized to oil and gas pipe standards. But there’s a catch.
Normalizing isn’t easy. Especially for today’s gauges and alloys.
It demands expertise in metallurgy, control software and precise
heat delivery.
The good news however is that these are areas in which we
specialize—making us a leader in pipe weld-seam normalizing.
Also, with more than 50 years’ induction heating experience,
we’re experts at using technology to open new commercial op-
portunities for our customers.
EFD Induction is Europe’s no 1—and the world’s no. 2—
induction company. Our systems are used to weld, normalize,
anneal, harden, temper, braze, melt, forge, bond, cure and pre-
and post-heat.
So whatever your pipe normalizing needs, you can turn to us
for a solution. And since we’re present around the world, that
solution is probably closer than you think. Contact us today.
There’s a vast oil and gas pipe market out there. We’ll help you
get a share of it.
