Speak Out
February 2016
Speech Pathology Australia
Eighty five mentoring
partnerships were registered
in 2015, which is nearly double the number registered the
previous year. It’s a great to start 2016 with nine speech
pathologists listed on the supervision register and 57
speech pathologists listed on the Find a Mentor search. We
encourage speech pathologists not currently receiving clinical
supervision in their workplace to negotiate with their employer
to receive external supervision.
For more information about supervision go to:
www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/information-for-members/supervision
and information about mentoring
can be found at: www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/ information-for-members/mentoring-programWhile there has been a strong emphasis on supervision and
mentoring in this section of Speak Out, there are a variety of
other ways to ensure you are adequately and appropriately
Spotlight on Professional Support
Supervision and Mentoring
supported professionally. One avenue for receiving and giving
professional support is through a peer support relationship.
See the next page for a great example of how two members
have set up and benefited from a peer support relationship.
Peer support is recognised as a professional development
activity in the PSR program and earns one point per hour
spent on this activity under the mentoring, supervision, and
peer support (M) category.
