Boy how fast time flies by. Here it is August and it seems like opening weekend was
yesterday. The fun has been nonstop with great events on and off the island. We attended
the raft off and it was a great time. Mother Nature tried to discourage us but the diehards
stuck it out and were glad for the decision, we had a great time.
We have had many visitors to our island through rendezvous’, events, and members visitors.
With that has come people that have wanted to join our family. It is good to see our
membership grow based on the great reputation that we have created and the paradise that
we have here at NCYC on the island.
This is the time of year that we reach out to all eligible members to join in and take the
opportunity to lead our club with your enthusiasm and fresh ideas. The next slate for the
board and flag candidates are being put together. Please support P/C Don Vanover and his
committee in selecting the most qualified slate possible. If you know of any one, or have
interest yourself, please contact the committee to provide your input.
Unfortunately there is some disappointment this year. Our normally volunteering in nature
members have not all performed their commitments to do their work weekends. In too many
instances people have either canceled their scheduled time or simply not shown up for their
commitments. That is the disappointment, but then there is the awesome members that see a
need and simply fill it with no hesitation. Those generous unselfish members ensured the
week managers and weekend OD’s were able to meet the needs of the membership. The
board has made a change to increase the financial penalty for not fulfilling the obligations to
work the required hours, and maybe the increase was not substantial enough to drive
compliance.
