Through this technology, which has

already proven to be successful on other

devices such as charging stations for

electric toothbrushes and cell phones, an alter-

nating magnetic field is generated in the trans-

mitter using a coil. The receiver also contains

a coil which is penetrated by the alternating

magnetic field. “This induces a voltage and

generates a current flow,” he reveals.

With the Bosch Wireless Charging System,

this means that the charger emits a magnetic

field which is received by the battery and trans-

formed into charging current. However, the

power transferred is more than 50 times greater

than that used in ordinary electric toothbrushes

(one watt), in order to reach the same charging

times as those provided by conventional power

tool battery chargers.

Advantages

Professional trade people who use cordless tools

are mobile, but always have to schedule time

and remember to charge the energy source.

Semi-industrial applications, such as furni-

ture manufacture, the electrical industry and

vehicle construction, are particularly reliant on

cordless tools. Lauer indicates that contactless

energy transfer is especially beneficial in these

stationary applications.

“It is considerably more

cost-effective than conven-

tional charging systems, as

it eliminates the need for a

second battery or expen-

sive industrial charging

stations. It also offers greater

ease-of-use and productivity,

as the batteries stay in the tool

and can be parked on the charging

station during every work interrup-

tion to charge. The result is that

the tools are always ready to be

used,” he continues.

According to Lauer, the

complete flexibility, due

to the fact that the

inductive batteries

within a voltage

class continue to be

compatible with all

tools in that class. “What’s more, the excep-

tionally robust charging stations no longer have

contact points, and are therefore durable against

water, dust and dirt.”

The first components of the

system

Bosch will begin the new era of the Wireless

Charging System with the GAL 1830 W Profes-

sional charger and the GBA 18 V 2.0 Ah MW-B

Professional battery. The GAL 1830 W Profes-

sional is compact and currently the smallest

charger available on the market for 18 volt

lithium-ion batteries.

As with the battery, it also features ‘Wireless

Intelligence’ – an electronic system which

ensures communication between charger and

battery – which starts the charging process and

adapts it to the current state of the battery. Lauer

notes that this ensures that the battery is always

optimally charged in every temperature range,

in addition to having a longer lifespan.

The Bosch GBA 18 V 2.0 Ah MW-B Profes-

sional is a compact 18 volt battery which

combines the advantages of the new tech-

nology with those of the previous system.

This 2.0 Ah battery has a charge level

indicator and is equipped with the tried-

and-tested Bosch’ CoolPack’

technology, which improves

heat dissipation.

This and the fact that lith-

ium-ion batteries do not have

memory effect have a positive

effect on the battery's lifetime. More-

over, the battery is compatible with all

Bosch Professional power tools and chargers

in the 18 volt class thanks to the ‘Flexible

Power System’.

As with all lithium-ion batteries and chargers,

Bosch offers a two-year service plan to all

trades people purchasing the new system

components of the Wireless Charging

System. This extends beyond the

standard 24-month Pro-Service

standard warranty.

Diamond Products is a

leading specialist in the

manufacture, assembly

and sale of diamond tools

and equipment for

industrial applications.

The company launched its triple

head planetary polisher at The

Totally Concrete Expo to enable

contractors to achieve a wider and more

evenly polished concrete and granite

surface area.

According to Diamond Products

director Brian Clark, the triple head plan-

etary polisher is designed to grind and

polish granite, marble, engineered stone

and concrete counter tops and stairs.

“It utilises three 100 mm polishing or

grinding pads, to achieve a perfectly flat

and shiny surface,” he says.

The Diamond Products triple head

planetary polisher is capable of operating in

wet or dry conditions, and comes standard

with a dust extraction system. It is driven

by a powerful 1 200 watt Makita variable

speed grinder.

Clark indicates that the variable speed

control revolutions ensures optimal speed

for diamond grinding and polishing in

numerous applications. “This solution is

ideal for refurbishing marble and granite

table tops and floors, as well as worn

staircases and landing areas,” he continues.

The Diamond Products triple head

planetary polisher has a grinding and

polishing width of 200 mm. It is easily-ma-

noeuvrable, as it weighs just 9 kg, while the

Makita variable speed grinder weighs only

3 kg. The combined solution is also highly

cost-effective.

A REVOLUTIONARY

CHARGING SYSTEM

Bosch kicked off the Wireless

Charging System locally by

launching the GAL 1830 W charger

and the GBA 18 V 2.0 Ah MW-B 18

volt lithium-ion battery onto the

market. Bosch Power Tools SA senior

brand manager Juergen Lauer

explains that the Wireless Charging

System is based on contactless

energy transfer technology.
