Courts of Justice Act, 1924.

The following resolution passed by both

Houses of the Oireachtas was considered :—

" That it is expedient that a Joint Com

mittee of the Dail and the Seanad be

set up to consider and report what

amendments, if any, are required in

the Courts of Justice Act, 1924, and

the Acts amending the same, and any

other

statutes

affecting

the

Civil

jurisdiction of

the Courts of Saorstat

Eireann.

That the Committee have

power to send for persons, papers and

records."

The Council appointed a Special Com

mittee to consider what matters should be

dealt with in evidence to be given on behalf

of the Council.

for year

ending 26th November, 1930, were appointed.

Courts of Justice Act, 1924.

A letter was read from the Secretary of

the Joint Committee of

the Oireachtas

stating that the Committee had decided to

enter forthwith upon the consideration of the

Circuit Court, its jurisdiction, and appeals

therefrom, and inviting the Society to send

representatives to give evidence before it

on this subject.

A report was submitted from the Special

Committee appointed by the Council at

its meeting on 5th inst.

The Council appointed Dr. T. G. Quirke

and Mr. L. J. Ryan to give evidence.

OBITUARY.

MR. MURDOCH GREEN FOLEY, Solicitor,

died upon the 15th December, 1929, at

26 Lion Street, Abergavenny, South Wales.

Mr. Foley served his apprenticeship with

his father, the late Mr. Edward Green Foley,

Dublin, was admitted in Trinity Sittings,

1887, and practised at 1 Wellington Quay,

Dublin, up to 1925.

MR. MARK SYDNEY ORR, Solicitor, died

upon

the 18th December,

1929, at his

residence Strand House, Merrion, County

Dublin.

MR. ORR served his apprenticeship with

the late Mr. Hunt W. Hardman, Dublin,

was admitted

in Hilary Sittings,

1895,

and practised, formerly in partnership with

the late Mr. Henry T. Stewart at 43 Lower

Sackville Street, Dublin, and

latterly at

7 Pearse Street, Dublin, under the style

of Stewart and Orr.

MR. ROBERT H. WALLACE, C.B., Solicitor,

died upon the 23rd December, 1929, at his

residence Myra Castle, Downpatrick.

Mr. Wallace was admitted in Michaelmas

Sittings, 1890, and practised in partnership

with Mr. George T. Harley, under the style

of H. Wallace & Co., at Downpatrick.

MR. JOHN H. TOMB, Solicitor, died upon

the 25th December, 1929, at New York,

U.S.A.

Mr. Tomb served his apprenticeship with

Mr. Charles R. Anderson, Coleraine, was

admitted

in Trinity Sittings, 1895, and

practised at Kilrea, Co. Londonderry, up

to 1908.

APPOINTMENTS.

Mr. Henry B. O'Hanlon, Solicitor, has been

appointed a Taxing Master in room of the

late Mr. Richard A. Macnamara.

Mr. William Corrigan,

Solicitor, 3 St.

Andrew Street, Dublin, has been appointed

Solicitor

to

the Attorney-General of the

Irish Free State.

Mr. Robert H. Carson, Omagh, has been

appointed Chief Crown Solicitor for Northern

Ireland, in room of Mr. John R. Moorhead,

retired. Mr. Carson was appointed Sessional

Crown Solicitor

for Co. Tyrone in 1905,

and Crown Solicitor in 1922.
