Dampfspektakel Trier 2018
DAY 1
We depart London St Pancras International
travelling via Brussels to Trier and our hotels.
We will have a welcome evening meal at our
hotel. (D)
DAY 2
To make maximum use of the 4 day
Dampfspektakel event we will be issuing
each customer with a Freedom Pass covering
all zones to enable you to either travel with
our Tour Manager on the itinerary we produce
for you or to travel independently on specific
excursions if you wish.
The event is scheduled to radiate around 7
main routes from Trier, including the lines
to Saarbrücken, Luxembourg, Koblenz, and
Gerolstein. Amongst the journeys and special
attractions we will be looking to include in
your itinerary are:
The current Dampfspektakel locomotive line-
up features 9 steam locos including a pair of
Pacifics (03 1010 & 01 519) Luxembourg’s
CFL 5519, and the star of the show the newly
restored and repatriated from Switzerland
Class 23 058, plus a couple of heritage electric
locos.
Routes: Trier - Saarbrücken - Wittlich - Trier
- Merzig - Bullay - Nenning - Gerolstein -
Luxemburg - Koblenz
Steam on the metre gauge Brohltalbahn. This
17 kms line known as the Vulkan Express
follows a tortuous route across viaducts,
steep gradients and tunnels between Engeln
and Brohl. Note: the railway is awaiting a
licence to enable them to run steam along the
complete line during the event including the
steep section into Engeln and also on the not
publicly used section down to the harbour at
Brohl Rheinanlagen.
After what seems like the longest wait, Dampfspektakel finally returns
to Trier in 2018, with a once-a-decade festival of steam and a fabulous
line-up of locomotives converging on Germany’s oldest city with a 4-day
festival of passenger trains hauled by steam locos galore.

Travel by steam to Neustadt to combine
a visit to the atmospheric steam depot at
Neustadt/Weinstrasse with a steam run on
the steeply graded 12 km standard gauge
‘Kuckuksbähnel’ between Elmstein and
Lambrecht, hopefully with the beautiful 1910
Henschel built 89 7159 and heritage coaches.

DAY 3
We continue to make best use of our all
zones Dampfspektakel ticket and we will
also include, if required, private connecting
transfers between stations to gain the
maximum line coverage and, if required,
transfers from the station to our hotels. . (B)
DAY 4
A reduced Dampfspektakel schedule today
allows us to also feature one of the excursions
from the list on Day 2. (B)
DAY 5
A reduced Dampfspektakel schedule today
allows us to feature more of the excursions
from the list on Day 2 (B)
DAY 6
Transferring to the station for our homeward
journey, we take the traditional route via
Luxemburg to Brussels and onwards via
Eurostar to London. (B)

number of quality hotels conveniently located
for Trier Hbf and Süd stations, all with
private facilities and good reputations. If the
Dampfspektakel timetable requires either
early or late starts then private road transport
will be provided to and from the stations. Your
