CE Certificates for Contact Hour or Credits
APHA issues a single certificate through its online system, with the
total number of CE contact hours or credits earned for the following
four disciplines:
CME:
AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ to MDs, DOs,
CME for non-physicians:
AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for Non-
Physicians and California nurses
CECH:
for health education specialists and master health education
specialist.
CNE:
contact hours for nursing education
CPHCE:
for those certified in public health
Note: Participants who want credit in other disciplines should check
with their licensing board to see if CME for non-physicians is accepted.
CE Access Fee
A CE access fee of $50 is charged for the first discipline and $10
for each additional discipline (Example: CME $50 + CPH $10 = $60
total) for any or all of the scientific sessions, roundtables or Learning
Institute Courses that have been awarded credit. Poster sessions
are NOT eligible for CE credit. Access fee must be paid before onsite
registration closes and evaluations completed before the posted
deadline to earn credit. No exceptions or refunds will be given after
the start of the Learning Institute Courses on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016.
How To Obtain CE Credit
1) Sign up and pay $50 access fee for CE credit during online
registration or on-site (No registration for CE will be accepted
after the close of onsite registration—November 3, 2016)
2) Select and attend learning institute courses, scientific sessions,
and roundtable sessions that have been granted credit (check
online program and/or CE Booth)
3) Log on to APHA’s online evaluation system at
www.apha.organd click on the CE Evaluation button. You will need your badge
number and last name to access the evaluation site. Follow the
prompts to enter your evaluations and generate a certificate
4) You will be able to print your certificate and a transcript of the
sessions you evaluated from any printer. Deadline to complete
evaluations:
December 18, 2016.
All those registered for CE may visit the CE Evaluation Center located
in Lobby A of the Colorado Convention Center where computers
have been set up for registrants to evaluate the sessions they have
attended or they may evaluate sessions in the comfort of their hotel or
home during or after the Annual Meeting by logging on to
www.apha.
org
and clicking on the CE Evaluation button.

Health Education (CHES/MCHES)
The American Public Health Association (APHA) is accredited by
the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.,
to sponsor continuing education for Certified Health Education
Specialists and Master Certified Health Education Specialists. This
program is a designated event for the CHES to receive up to 30
Category I CE contact hours (CHEC). The total number of MCHES
credits available will be posted on the APHA website beginning Oct. 1,
2016 at
https://apha.confex.com/apha/144am/meetingapp.cgi.Note: For those health educators who took the CHES exam in October
2015 and do not know their status, you can obtain CHES credits from the
Annual Meeting at your own risk. If you are certified, NCHEC will honor
these credits. If you are not certified, you cannot use these credits
towards your maintenance of certification at a later time. Keep all
certificates and registration information. CHES/MCHES credits earned
at this meeting are reported to NCHEC in January.
Nursing (CNE)
The APHA/PHN Section is accredited as a provider of continuing
nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s
Commission on Accreditation.
Public Health (CPH)
The APHA is an approved provider of Certified in Public Health
Continuing Education Credit (CPHCE) by the National Board of
Public Health Examiners.
CE Contact Hour or Credit Computation
Contact hours are determined in a logical and defensible manner,
consistent with the objectives, content, teaching/learning strategies
and target audience. The CE accrediting bodies for physicians, health
educators, nurses, and public health professionals and the American
Public Health Association Public Health Nursing Section, use the
60-minute contact or credit hour, which consists of 60 minutes of
organized learning activity, either didactic or clinical experience.
To calculate the number of contact hours, add the total number of
minutes of allowed time and divide by 60. Registration, welcome,
introductions, breaks, evaluation and meals are not included in the
calculation of contact or credit hours. Pre- and Posttests, practice
and discussion are considered part of the learning activity and are
included in calculation of contact or credit hours.
