C
harlotte-Anne Fidler, creative
and fashion director at British
Glamour
magazine, shares her
stunningly feminine home in
London’s East End with her husband
Matthew and daughter Anouk Tallulah.
A passionate gardener, her large backyard
is a lush array of floppy rose bushes,
creamy peonies, cascades of clematis and
a rose-covered arbour. The traditional
English garden’s whites, creams and pinks
have been carried through to the interior
décor of the house which is faintly
Scandinavian in style.
The furniture and floorboards are
painted in pale, pastel colours, fireplaces
have been restored and the laminate
in the kitchen replaced with painted
wooden floorboards. The final touches
are bespoke French doors and original
shutters, which allow gently diffused
sunlight to filter through to the rooms.
Ornate armoires and antique French
mirrors – all in soft creamy shades –
dictate the style, but it steers clear of
‘shabby chic’. Contemporary designer
pieces rub shoulders with re-upholstered
antique armchairs and crystal chandeliers
while in the main bedroom, antique
Swedish bedding, delicate floral coverlets
and lots of plump pillows capture the
Scandi vibe beautifully.
The kitchen’s French doors
open out to the garden.
Right: cream Shaker-style
units and a Belfast sink
provide a modern country
look in the kitchen.
Bottom: a stuffed chaise
longue and mirrored
armoire in the living room.
