Major increase in warehouse capacity
DK Jones Ltd, an international supplier
of piping and associated products,
has responded to a rapidly growing
requirement from customers for ex
stock or very short delivery times of an
increasing range of high quality fittings
and flanges with both standard and
special end connections.
The company has announced that its
plans for a 50% increase in warehouse
capacity are now well underway and
completion of the new building is due
during 2012. The company currently
has 100,000ft
2
of covered warehouse
space at its Middlesbrough, UK site.
The 50,000ft
2
extension will allow both
an increased stock range and additional
machining capacity.
As a part of the expansion programme
several new machines are currently on
order for DK Jones’s existing machining
facilities. These include three new CNC
machines and two machines specially
designed for the profiling of olets, and
an additional, fully automatic bandsaw.
This major investment in equipment will
enable DK Jones to offer cut lengths
of pipe and a wider range of items,
including forged fittings and olets with
both standard and special connections,
machined from the company’s large
stocks of semi-finished forgings, with
a very quick delivery time. DK Jones
already has in-house capability to
machine the faces and bores of flanges
with pressure rating up to 2500# and
butt weld fittings with wall thickness of
up to Sch 160 and XXS in all sizes up
to 24" NB.
The company believes that the increased
warehouse capacity and new equipment
will enable customers worldwide to
benefit from shorter delivery times for all
high quality standard and special fittings
and flanges.

Plastic transition fitting with metal thread
Georg Fischer Piping Systems has
introduced a new transition fitting made
of plastic with internal and external
threads of metal. On the plastic side, the
combined socket and spigot versions
provide installers with flexibility.
The transition fitting is sealed with
an EPDM O-ring, which also protects
against distortion and damage to the
plastic during installation. Additional
features of this fitting are its long service
life and leak tightness even under
temperature fluctuations and vibration.
The new fitting, made of plastic and
metal, was originally developed for
industrial refrigeration technology.
In frosting and defrosting processes,
refrigerating plants are subjected to
temperature fluctuations that can cause
the material to expand.
The innovative jointing technology of
O-ring and retaining ring compensates
for this, while also preventing the
connection from coming loose when
there is vibration – essential in pipe
systems with pumps. Retightening after
installation is not necessary. The wide
seat of the metal part enables secure
mounting of the fitting with conventional
installation tools.
GF Piping Systems product manager
Peter Waefler is convinced that this
technology provides an extra dose of
safety in industrial installations.
Available in ABS and PVC-U, and in
a variety of dimensions, GF Piping
Systems has created a safe and reliable
bridge from plastic to metal pipes.
The joints are available in the dimensions
d20, d25 and d32 (socket) on the plastic
side, and in ½", ¾" and 1" Rp and R
threads on the metal side (stainless
steel and brass). The pressure rating is
PN16 for PVC-U and PN10 for ABS.
