water, over €400,000 has been invested
in this environmental protection to
ensure that the surrounding countryside
and rivers will not be put at risk.
In order to better serve customers,
Stellar set up TSISCO, a fully owned
trading company in Shanghai. This
addition to the group has broadened
the product range. TSISCO offers, in
addition to tubes and pipes, stainless
steel sheet and plates.
Stellar has also set up a stockholding
facility in Shenyang City, in northern
China. Known under the name of
Stainless Steel North Market, total
investment for this project is estimated
at around RMB 25 billion, and the first
phase of the facilities covers an area of
around 50,000m

. The market enjoyed
a grand opening ceremony in May and
about 200 stainless steel industrial
companies set up there office there.
High quality and fast delivery
– the key to success
The rapid growth and international
success achieved by the Stellar group
within the space of just a few years
are attributed by its chairman, Chen
Shangsong, to a significant extent to
its ability to supply the highest quality
material with short delivery times.
Stellar’s associated company, Tsingshan
Holding Group, operates its own melting
shop and holds a massive 70% share of
the Chinese market for semi-finished
products. This means that the Stellar
group has immediate access to the
feedstock it needs for its seamless tube
and pipe production facilities, which in
turn allows Stellar to supply finished
products to its customers very quickly.
Contracts such as the CNPC-Indonesia
pipeline project, for which Stellar
supplies some 10km of seamless pipe
annually in grade 316L stainless, are
awarded to Stellar precisely because of
its ability to supply material quickly and
on schedule.
From the very beginning, the Stellar
group has always placed its main
focus on quality, being acutely aware
of the importance of maintaining and
enhancing the reputation of the Stellar
brand, as well as that of the Tsingshan
Steel Group, of which it forms part.
Tsingshan Steel Group is the largest
stainless steel long product producer in
the world.
To ensure that the highest quality is
maintained at all times, Stellar’s
production facilities have a full range of
inspection equipment at their disposal
in-house for both semi-finished and
finished products, including ultrasonic
defect detecting equipment, eddy
current inspection line, hydraulic test
equipment, universal material testing
unit, direct reading spectrometer,
and equipment and instrumentation
for chemical analysis. The group has
certificates of approval from Lloyd’s
Register (ISO 9001:2008), TÜV (AD
2000-Merkblatt W0; PED 97/23/EC),
ASME SA213/SA312, DNV, BV, CCS,
ABS, RINA, API, etc.
Products from the Stellar group are used
in a very wide range of applications.
Sectors supplied include the petroleum
industry, the chemical industry,
aerospace, the medical sector, the food
processing sector, the high pressure
vessel sector, the power generation
industry, and the water treatment and
desalination sectors. It has become the
registered supplier for CNPC, CNOOC
and CPCC domestically.
The group’s product range covers tubes
and pipes in primarily austenitic and
duplex grades, including 304/304L, 321,
310S, 347H, SAF2205, 316/316L/316Ti,
317L and 31803. Material is supplied
in the main size range 6-830mm OD,
and wall thicknesses 0.8-50mm, in
accordance with, among others, the
following standards: ASTM A312, A213,
A269, A511, A789, A790, JIS 3463, JIS
3459, DIN 2462, DIN 17458, DIN 17456,
and EN 10216-5.
Increasing focus on
end-users
The Stellar brand is nowwell-established
worldwide, with exports accounting for
around 40% of total sales. Countries
where Stellar already has an important
presence include Canada, the USA,
Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Africa, India,
Korea and Australia.
The group has continued its presence
into the international arena by, for
example, its participation at trade fairs
around the globe. The company had
a large (100m
2
) and very impressive
stand designed throughout in
traditional Chinese style at 2010’s Tube
in Düsseldorf, and has also in recent
times participated as an exhibitor at
major events in the Netherlands, Brazil,
Dubai, the USA, as well as, of course,
in China. In addition, the company
has continued to seek approvals
from global end-users, and acquired
supplier qualification from Saipem
in Italy, Petrobras in Brazil in 2010,
and from Engineers India Limited and
Kuwait Oil Company in 2011. It is part
of Stellar’s global marketing strategy
to approach more end-users in foreign
markets.
It is Stellar’s permanent pursuit to serve
global customers, especially end-users,
with high quality products while doing
no harm to the environment.
