Inaugural Welding World awards
The Association of Welding Distribution
has announced the new Welding World
Awards, which aim to find and recognise
the best examples of work across all
aspects of the welding industry. The
awards ceremony will be held on
Wednesday 13 April 2016 at the Hilton
Birmingham Metropole, UK, during
MACH, a showcase for themanufacturing
and engineering industries.
The awards are international, impartial
and independent, and can be won by
anyone involved in the industry. To enter,
a company must be nominated online
at Once
nominated, all entrants are listed on the
website with their name subject to a
public vote, which ends on 31st October
2015. Companies are able to nominate
themselves, and all nominees awarded
20 votes or more will be invited to
confirm their application. Arrangements
will then be made for members of the
Welding World Awards panel of judges
to visit the companies in January and
February 2016, should they reach the
shortlist within the top ten.
Categories include best gas supplier,
best new welding product, best safety
product supplier, best welding distributor,
best welding industry training provider,
best welding product supplier, best
e-commerce website and best welding
machine supplier.
The Association of Welding Distribution
was created to support and promote
the high professional standards of its
members in dealing with customers,
suppliers and competitors.
Welding World Magazine is the official
journal of the AWD, and includes industry
news, product reviews, feature articles,
membership news and an ‘ask the
expert’ section.

Tenaris expands online course
offering on edX platform
Tenaris, a manufacturer and supplier of
steel pipe products and related services
for the energy industry and other
industrial applications, is expanding its
online library on the edX platform with
the launch of two additional MOOCs –
massive open online courses.
‘Introduction to Oil Country Tubular
Goods (OCTG)’, which started in
August, encompasses everything from
the geology of the ground and drilling
conditions to what products are used
and why, and how selected, as well as
their different characteristics.
The OCTG course was followed up
by ‘Introduction to Running Pipe in
Oil and Gas Wells’ in September, in
which participants gained a better
understanding over a two-week period
on how OCTG products are safely
prepared and installed in oil and gas
wells.
Tenaris’s corporate university has
been collaborating with edX, a non-
profit created in partnership by the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
and Harvard University, to produce
courses that not only enrich and
advance its employees’ training
experience, but extend its academic
reach to the public and future industry
employees.
“This collaboration with edX has been
very fruitful, as it has introduced to us
to the highest standards of learning
methodologies for developing people
both inside the company and in the
community,” said Rolando Lange, who
heads Tenaris’s corporate university.

oil and gas gathering, transportation,
processing and power generation
facilities.
