Chuck Clay
is an attorney of counsel in Nelson Mullins Riley &
Scarborough LLP's Atlanta office. He has experience in civil litigation,
including defending class actions. A former Georgia State Senator and
Senate Minority Leader, he also assists clients in the public policy arena,
facilitating changes in law to benefit clients and help businesses secure
relationships with government agencies.
While serving as Senator, Mr. Clay was the former vice chair of the
Banking and Financial Institutions Committee, the former chairman of
the General Assembly's World Congress Center Overview Committee,
and he was also part of the Appropriations, Rules, Insurance, Education,
Ethics, and Judiciary Committees.
Mr. Clay was also the district attorney and on the board of Commissioners for Cobb County,
Georgia. He was the past chairman for the board of directors for the Aviation Museum and
Discovery Center, as well as the chairman for the Republican Party of Georgia for two years.
Mr. Clay has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award for the Georgia Middle School
Association, Outstanding Legislator Award for both the Georgia Council of Aging and Association
of County Commissioners of Georgia, and many others.
Mr. Clay received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina and his Juris Doctor
from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Elizabeth Newcomb
became the newest member to the Nelson Mullins
team after interning for former State Senator Chuck Clay during the 2013
legislative session.
Legislative issues lie at the very heart of the mission of Nelson Mullins.
In a very short time, Ms. Newcomb has developed particular skills and
knowledge in complex areas such as health care, Medicaid funding and
the needs in the behavioral health and developmental disability
community. She also works closely with members of the bioscience
industry, including private companies and research universities.
Additionally, Ms. Newcomb works with and understands the unique
needs of a variety of Georgia trade associations. Most importantly, she
brings enthusiasm and passion to all that she does.
Ms. Newcomb received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Georgia
and worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan following graduation.
