Enjoying the Autumn Sun
What better way to enjoy the best of
the autumn weather than with a trip to
Oxford’s famous Botanic Garden? Dating
back to the early 17th century, The Botanic
Garden is the oldest in Britain and also
boasts being the world’s most compact
yet diverse collection of plants. Open daily
from 10.00am – 5.00pm (4.00pm from
November). Tickets are £5, or free for
under-16s when accompanied by an adult.
Inspirational Coffee
Offering one of the best views in Oxford,
the Vaults Café is located to the rear of the
University Church of St Mary the Virgin,
Radcliffe Square. Their garden, which offers
blankets and hot water bottles in the winter,
looks out on the iconic Radcliffe Camera,
the Bodleian and Codrington libraries,
and the renowned Brasenose and All
Souls colleges. The café’s interior is pretty
impressive too!
Full Board Dining
Thirsty Meeples in Gloucester Green is
Oxford’s first board game café. This goes
well beyond the obligatory Christmas
session of Monopoly; they offer over
2,500 games and are well placed to advise
on new options, ensuring you enjoy a
fun-filled, social and stimulating afternoon
over smoothies, shakes, coffees and cakes.
Bookings from £5, open all day on Sundays.
A Touch of Culture
Oxford is many things to many people, a
seat of academia, an iconic city vista or a
vibrant regional shopping destination, but it
is also a hub for cultural opportunities. Some
of the exhibitions and concerts available
to pupils this autumn include:
Aksum: a
Late Antique Empire of Faith in Africa
at the
Ashmolean from 26th September; Michael
Goldrei’s
‘Trashtopia’
at the Old Fire Station
from 18th October; Aleksandra Mir
, Space
Tapestry
at Modern Art Oxford until 12th
November; and a recital in the breathtaking
Sheldonian Theatre, celebrating Corpus
Christi College’s 500th anniversary on
25th November.
