LAW-2832 Pretrial Civil Litigation

3 credits day; 3 credits evening.

Students using this course to fulfill the experiential learning requirement may not also use this

same course to meet the legal writing requirement.

This course covers the pre-trial events of civil litigation from initial client interviews through the

final pre-trial conference. The course will cover civil discovery including document requests,

interrogatories and depositions. Pre-trial motions including motions to amend, to dismiss, for

sanctions and for summary judgment will also be covered in this course. Students will prepare

two legal Memoranda in support of pre-trial motions and will conduct a deposition. Students

should note that there are two discovery-related courses offered: Pretrial Civil Litigation and

Pretrial Criminal Litigation. The content of these courses is substantially similar and thus

students may enroll in only one of these two discovery-related courses.
