MEMORANDUM

Date:

28 Sept 2015

To:

AOAC INTERNATIONAL Board of Directors

From:

Shauna Roman – Chair, Official Methods Board

Subject:

AOAC Official Methods Board Update

OMB Membership

The first term of four (4) OMB members come to a close this year. Two OMB members, Shang-Jing

(Jean) Pan (Abbott Nutrition) and Perry Martos (University of Guelph) opted not to pursue a second

term as a member of the OMB. I would like to thank both Jean and Perry for their hard work and

dedication to the OMB. They will both be missed.

The OMB has approved the members of the 2015-2016 OMB members. Two members, Erin Crowley

(Q Laboratories) and Brad Stawick (Microbac) will begin their second terms on the OMB. The OMB

selection committee did an excellent job bringing forward a very highly qualified slate of 13

candidates for two OMB member positions. I am proud to announce that Don Gilliliand (Abbott

Nutrition) and Katerina (Kate) Mastovska (Covance) have been appointed to the OMB. Additionally,

Erin Crowley and Brad Stawick have been reappointed to the OMB. Their terms will begin following

the AOAC Business Meeting on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

Awards

Over the past year, members of the AOAC Analytical Laboratory Accreditation Criteria

Committee (ALACC) worked to update the

AOAC Internationals Guidelines for Laboratories

Performing Microbiological and Chemical Analysis of Food and Pharmaceuticals.

The update

was in response to numerous requests for clarifications from laboratories, accrediting

bodies, and assessors. The revised document (Draft 6) was presented to and approved by

the OMB.

AOAC received a request for the OMB to consider ALACC work for the OMB Award in

Recognition of Technical and Scientific excellence. This request was received after the 2015

OMB award recipients had been decided and thus needed to be approved outside of the

normal process. The OMB agreed that it made sense to consider ALACC for this work and

did approve ALACC for the 2015 OMB Award in Recognition of Technical and Scientific

Excellence.
