Listen to your hamster

As solitary animals, hamsters are not very chatty

and make few noises that we can hear. They do

make sounds in the ultrasonic range, but this is way

beyond our range of hearing. However, there are a

couple of sounds you may hear your hamster make.

Cackle

This is sound that hamsters use when they are de-

fending their home. Usually this is only made when

they see another hamster, but if your pet is worried

it may use the same noise to tell you it wants to be

left alone.

Teeth chattering

Again, this sound means “go away,” and is usually

used by males. If the other animal does not go away,

fighting is likely to ensue.

Squawk

If your hamster squawks it is telling you it is either

very frightened or in pain!
