IPA Thames Valley Branch AGM Lunch
Mike Vince
, MBE – Branch Treasurer
A most convivial lunch held at the Vauxhall
Barracks, Didcot, Oxfordshire saw 56 persons
sitting down to an excellent subsidised carvery
lunch choice of roast lamb or roast chicken.
Members were pleased with the low bar prices
compared with other commercial premises
that we have used. Pauline and John Osborne,
our Social Secretaries organised this event
with the help of the Mess Manager. Starting
with a Loyal Toast to Her Majesty the Queen,
an excellent and amusing grace was said by
our guest the Reverend Clark.
Our guest of honour was John Campbell, Deputy
Chief Constable Thames Valley Police, spoke
a few words welcoming our request for him to
become our Patron and sponsor. John said that
he was delighted to take on this role and do his
best to further the aims and benefits of the IPA
to the Thames Valley officers and support staff.
Our Chairman David Marchant presented a 30
years IPA Service certificate to Garry Deacon
who had travelled with his wife Mandy from the
Coventry area to join us. Election of the Branch
officers saw our outgoing Chairman David
Marchant handing over to Kevin Goodman. Kevin
handed over a bottle of a favourite tipple to a
delighted David. The Vice Chairman, Secretary
and Treasurer remain as per the last year.
A raffle was held raising £200 which was
presented to the Mess Staff to hand over to the
Felix Fund – the Bomb Disposal Charity which
supports those who risk their lives to prevent
explosions that could endanger the lives of the
general public across the UK and beyond. The
intense pressure they are under, the fund is there
to help this unique group of men and women.
Attenborough walk
On Sunday 14th May 2017, having finished nights and with 3 1/2
hours sleep I joined our members for a good 3 miles walk along
Attenborough Nature Reserve. After a beautiful walk catching up with
the old days... we sat down and enjoyed a great lunch from the golden
ages menu ...yum yum! It was Ian Spence and his wife Diane first
social walk and they hope to join us at future events.
