Croatia IPA

Dubrovnik Friendship

Week

29 April – 13 May 2017

Bryan Tunney

; Staffordshire Branch

My wife Sheila and I joined 44 other members

and wives at the Albatross Hotel, Cavtat

for the two week Island Tour.

O

ur fellow travellers

were members from

many different countries – 10 in fact

which included ;-Australia; United States,

Canada, Estonia, Portugal, Norway, Belgium,

Israel and the host country Croatia. The UK

was well represented by members from Greater

Manchester, Metropolitan and my own Branch,

Staffordshire.

Our guide was Chief Inspector Vlaho LUJO,

Secretary of the Dubrovnik Branch, and his

wife Anna. They proved to be exceptionally well

qualified as they guided us through the length

and breadth of their beautiful country with its

many Islands and historical treasures which

are far too many to cover in this article. In all

we covered in excess of 2000 miles in a very

comfortable coach driven in safety along some

seriously torturous roads by an extremely skilful

driver. We witnessed exceptional friendship and

hospitality wherever we went.

In one stopover the wife of the local branch IPA

chairman, who had only heard of our visit the

day before, prepared a wonderful buffet that we

all thoroughly enjoyed in the warm sunshine.

This was yet another example of the friendship

and hospitality we were privileged to see

throughout our visit.

There were so many highlights to this wonderful

and well organized trip but it would be remiss

of me if I omitted to mention the two Friendship

Dinners at which we were privileged guests of

Croatian IPA. Each event was memorable and

lavish involving much laughter, singing and

dancing and the exchange of gifts.

For those members who have not attended a

Friendship week, I would encourage you to join

such an event. They offer a wonderful opportunity

to meet like-minded personnel of other lands, to

experience their history, culture and, above all to

form new friendships.

I would like to pay tribute to Vlaho, Anna and

all members of the Croatia IPA and to offer a

very big thank you on their achievements during

Friendship Week. It was such a happy event and

was a pleasure to witness the warmth, generosity

and friendship that this visit produced.

Well Done Croatia IPA
