Location:The

Chicago Bar Association, 321 South Plymouth Court, Chicago,

The complex nature of family building through adoption raises myriad

ethical issues. These vary based upon the type of adoption, whether you

represent the birth parent or the adoptive parent, whether you are involved

in an agency or non-agency adoption, and whether the adoption involves

multiple jurisdictions. Foster care and surrogacy family planning also

raise novel ethical issues. This seminar will provide a basic blueprint of

how to spot and address ethical issues in adoption, surrogacy and foster

care representation.

This program will discuss Professional Standards in Adoption Procedure

in Illinois; Types of Adoptions, Standards of Court Procedure, and Foster

Care Adoptions; Ethical Issues Related to Birth Parents: Representation

and Termination of Parental Rights; Multijurisdictional Professional Re-

sponsibilities: Interstate And International Adoptions; and Ethical Issues

in Surrogacy and Assisted Reproductive Technology.
