In patients with MM and symptomatic bone disease, significant relief of
pain can be achieved with palliative radiotherapy
Radiotherapy can also be used for relief/prevention of neurological
symptoms due to spinal cord or nerve root compression
Radiotherapy can be used in MM for prevention - or consolidation after
orthopedic stabilization - of a pathologic fracture in the case of severe
destruction of the cortical bone (impending fracture)
Radiation doses ranging from 8 Gy in 1 fraction up to 30 Gy in 10 fractions
are commonly used
