Obituary.

MR. EDWARD COUNIHAN, Solicitor, died

upon the 15th April, 1922, at Bellevue,

Kilrush, County Clare.

Mr. Counihan served his apprenticeship

with the late Mr. Thomas Kelly, Kilrush ;

was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1911, and

practised at Kilrush.

MR. LEVINS J. O'REILLY, Solicitor, died

upon the 25th April, 1922, at Dublin.

Mr. O'Reilly served his apprenticeship

with the late Mr. Ambrose Plunkett, 22

Wellington Quay, Dublin ; was admitted in

Hilary Sittings,

1904,

and practised at

20 Wellington Quay, Dublin.

MR. FRANCIS FITZMAURICE, Solicitor, died

as the victim of a murderous assault, at his

residence, Carberry, Dunmanway, County

Cork, on the 26th April, 1922.

Mr. Fitzmaurice served his apprenticeship

with the late Messrs. Gregg and Gregg, Cork ;

was admitted in Trinity Term, 1874, and

practised at Dunmanway.

The Council of

the Incorporated Law

Society, by resolution passed at its meeting

on 3rd May, expressed to Mrs. Fitzmaurice

and the members of the family the deep

sympathy of the Council in their bereavement.

Appointment of Law Officer.

In the

Dublin Gazette

of 14th April, 1922,

it is officially notified by the Secretary to

the Provisional Government that the Law

Officer of the Provisional Government is

Mr. Hugh Kennedy, and that the Solicitor

to the Law Officer is Mr. James O'Connor,

of 71 Dame Street, Dublin, at which address,

it is notified, legal notices and documents

should be served.

By an Order of the King in Council dated

the 1st day of April, 1922, being the Pro

visional Government (Transfer of Functions)

Order, 1922, it is

(inter alia]

provided :

13 (i).

Subject to any Act of the Pro

visional Parliament and to the provisions of

this Order and any other Order made under

the Irish Free State (Agreement) Act, 1922,

all existing laws, institutions and authorities

in

Southern

Ireland, whether

judicial,

administrative or ministerial, shall continue

as if this Order had not been made, subject

to the modification necessary for adapting

them to this Order and in particular to the

modifications hereinafter set forth.

13 (ii)

(d).

References to the Attorney-

General or Solicitor-General for Ireland or

Southern

Ireland shall be construed as

references to the Law Officer of the Pro

visional Government appointed to discharge

the functions previously discharged by these

officers.

SCHEDULE TO ORDER.

Part I.

Ministry of Home Affairs. —There will be'

attached to this Department as a branch

thereof a Law Officers' Department

under the Law Officer of the Provisional

Government, to which there shall be

assigned the functions of the office of

the Chief Crown Solicitor.

May Examinations, 1922.

The Preliminary Examination will be held,

as already announced, on Thursday and

Friday, 25th and 26th days of May.

The Final Examination will be held, as

already announced, on Monday, Tuesday and

Wednesday, 29th, 30th and 31st days of May.

The candidates who lodge notices of inten

tion to attend the above Examinations will

receive intimation from the Secretary of the

address in Dublin where the Examinations

will be held.

Society's Calendar, 1922.

The Calendar of the Society for 1922 can

be obtained at the Secretary's Temporary

Office, 33 Molesworth Street, Dublin. Price

five shillings, by post five shillings and

sixpence. There are a few copies remaining

unsold.
