Artifacts in MRI

• An image artifact is any property or effect observed in an image that

does not appear in the original object

• Images can be distorted in many ways

– Signal loss

– Deformations

– Poor resolution

– Ghosting

– Aliasing

– …..

• Consequences for use

– Interpretation is difficult

– Geometrical accuracy may be compromised
