Roads &Traffic Safety

2017-2021 FINANCIAL PLAN



Used Traffic Management Centre to

implement real-time signal timing

changes to improve traffic flow,

particularly during events/incidents;

and



Developed a strategic property

acquisition strategy for new roads

within the City Centre to reduce

development uncertainty and ensure

equity for developers.



Developed a strategy for widening Fraser Highway through Green Timbers Urban

Forest to support LRT and additional travel lanes while increasing the area of

protected forest/park.



Safe and Active Schools Program—

added Travel Planning to 4 more

schools and continued bicycle training

to all Grade 4/5 students; and



Delivered another successful

Transportation Lecture Program for

the citizens of Surrey supported by

SFU, TransLink, Metro Vancouver and

private speakers.



Constructed $40M in transportation

improvements, including road

widening and rehabilitation, traffic

calming and safety measures, cycling

and pedestrian mobility

improvements;



Integrated 3 Year Paving Program into

COSMOS and Third-Party Utility

Agencies;



Completed construction of the $8M

160 Street widening from 96 Avenue

to 104 Avenue; and



Completed construction of the 148

Street widening, from 65 Avenue to 72

Avenue, including pedestrian/cycling

improvements to/from TE Scott

Elementary.



Expanded the cycling network by 20km

in 2016 with a value of $2.2M, including

contribution of $0.8M from the Province

and TransLink; and



Developed new cycle track design

standards to support cycling for all ages

and abilities and implemented the City’s

first cycle track project within the City

Centre.
