Surrey’s actual and projected annual population growth rate for each of the years from
2012 to 2021 is illustrated in Figure 2 below. While some annual fluctuation is likely, it is
expected that Surrey’s population growth rate will average 1.95% per year over the next
few years. Metro Vancouver’s Regional Growth Strategy estimate of Surrey’s growth
rate is similar. Surrey’s share of growth in the region is projected to be approximately
29% making it the fastest growing municipality in Metro Vancouver.
The 2011 Census from Statistics Canada provides the following demographical
information for the City of Surrey demonstrating that Surrey has a strong family based
population: (updated 2016 Census data is expected to be available by the end of 2017)
