Steve says his team realized, “There was no way we could lever-
age or hire the resources alone.” The problem was just too big for
them to handle. They decided they needed to sell their startup to a larger
company that would be able to deal with all the problems.
On October 7, 2006, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley uploaded a video
for all YouTube users to see. It began with Chad saying, “Today we have
some exciting news for you: we’ve been acquired by Google.” Steve
continued by thanking the users of YouTube for all their help in reaching
