n the middle of the pet store, Mr. Wei had put up a large enclosure. Part terrarium, part animal
cage it was home to a variety of plants, mushrooms, and small animals. From where he was
standing, Jesse could see grasshoppers, butterflies, and a large, brown bug that looked very
much like a stick.
Mr. Wei walked over with a spray bottle and some pieces of lettuce. “I need to keep the plants
moist in here,” he explained. “And someone in here really likes lettuce. I’m not sure which ani-
mal it is, but they eat it up pretty quick.”
