WAI’s Interwire 2009, co-located with IFE, the International Fastener Machinery

& Suppliers Association (IFMSA) trade show, opens its doors at Cleveland’s I-X Center

on Monday 27

th

April 2009. Established in 1981, Interwire is recognised by

Tradeshow

Week

as being among the 200 largest trade shows in the US. Five hundred exhibitors

are expected, representing suppliers to the wire making industry (wiredrawing

machinery, insulation, raw materials), manufacturers of wire, and processors of the

wire end product (wire bending, forming for baskets, hooks and fasteners).

Scheduled to run until Thursday, 30

th

April, Interwire 2009 will include exhibits,

technical presentations and networking events for delegates from the wire, cable and

fastener industries. Typical attendees to this biennial show include plant managers,

researchers, engineers and business owners from over fifty countries throughout the

world. The show crosses dozens of vertical industries including automotive,

construction, aerospace, transportation, and communications.

This year, Interwire has attracted the support of the US Department of Commerce’s

International Buyer Program, helping importers and US exporters to find each other

and work together both during and after the show. To explore the potential of the

DOC’s export programme, delegates are invited to visit the WAI’s International

Business Centre where presentations are planned and representatives will be on hand

for one-to-one appointments. Translators will be available.

Interwire 2009 will feature multiple–paper theme sessions on dies and on coolants and

filtration, and over 30 technical paper presentations. Topics will include fractures, wire

rope, spring wire, bead wire, plastic deformation, steel tyre cord, tandem drawing,

surface oxides and shape-memory wire. Practical instruction will be available at a

two-day course on the fundamentals of wire manufacturing and a one-day workshop

entitled Macro and Micro Innovation in Steel Wire.

WAI’s 79

th

Annual Convention will run in conjunction with the show. The convention

includes an extensive programme of technical papers, plant tours, guest speakers,

awards ceremony, committee meetings and networking activities.
