compounds

Fainplast

srl

has

recently

presented a new crosslinkable

halogen-free and flame retardant

compound for insulation and

sheathing of speciality cables.

HAX HFX 034 meets the demand

for a halogen-free material with

optimum flame retardation that

maintains good mechanical pro-

perties at high temperatures and

after ageing.

HFX 034 must be mixed during

the extrusion process with 5% of

a suitable catalyst that starts up

the crosslinking process.

Curing by exposure to moisture

and heat will then accelerate this

process.

No special equipment is required

to use this material. Extrusion

can be made on a single screw

extruder either with high or low

compression screw (PVC or HFFR

screw).

It complies with VDE 0266 HXI1,

VDE 0207 part 23 type HJ1, BS

50363-5:2005 type EI5 standards.

It has also passed the single cable

fire test, IEC 60332-1.

HFX 034 is currently used in the

production of cables H05Z-K,

H07Z-K, (N) HXCH-FE 180/E

30, photovoltaic, eolic and other

speciality cables.

Fainplast

produces

specific

cables for different fields of appli-

cation, including high temperature

(105°) cables for automobile and

automation applications; general

use and installation cables (up

to 70°) for the building trade;

signal cables, such as coaxial,

telecommunication, control cables

and fibre optics; and other special

cables for railway, airport, marine

and other industry sectors.

Fainplast

has

considerable

productive flexibility and R&D

capability, and is able to design

tailor–made materials according to

the customer’s specific request.

Compounds meet performance and

environmental demands

To meet the evolving fire performance and environmental compliance criteria

in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North and South America, AlphaGary

has developed a portfolio of speciality compounds for a wide variety of cable

designs and applications – both copper and fibre optic:

Smokeguard™ FP (with DuPont Teflon

1.

®

) and Smokeguard™ HP

fluoropolymer compounds that meet stringent cable fire performance for

mission critical applications in extreme environments

Smokeguard

2.

low smoke vinyl alloys meeting RoHS environmental

compliance for North American plenum and European CPD Class B1/B2

Megolon

3.

halogen-free materials for IEC 60332-1/60332-3C, European

CPD Classes C to E, power cable sheathing and crosslinkable insulations

Garaflex

4.

TPE styrenic, vinyl, olefinic/EPDM, and vulcanizate blends

Garathane

5.

thermoplastic urethane blends and alloys

AlphaGary offers colour concentrates to support all these compound types,

both custom-matched and to standards such as Munsell and RAL. AlphaGary

is committed to providing material compound solutions to meet the various

cable performance requirements in different regions of the world, and offers

support to help customers choose the most appropriate materials for

speciality cable designs.

AlphaGary has ISO 9001 and/or ISO TS 16949 registered facilities in the USA,

UK, and Canada. The company has consolidated its Megolon manufacturing

capabilities and commissioned new production lines in its Melton Mowbray,

UK facility to support an expanding wire and cable business.

Mixer compounds

Mixer began manufacturing cable compounds in 1996, to meet the specific

demands of the wire and cable industry. The company now produces insulation,

sheathing, filling and masterbatch cable compounds with both rubber and

thermoplastic.

The trademark EKOPREN

®

products

are based on halogen-free polymers

and additives with low toxicity and

clear smoke emission. The Mixer range

includes heavy metal free, high LOI and

fire/oil/ozone resistant compounds.

Fully automated production lines and

advanced testing facilities maintain

consistent quality of an annual

production of 20,000 metric tons of

cable compounds. Banbury internal

mixers and strainer extruders are used

to manufacture compounds in granule

(pellet) form.

Mixer offers technical and engineering services to assist cable manufacturers

to adapt their equipment to extrude compounds in pellet form. Mixer’s

on-site laboratory is at customers’ disposal for testing material properties

and behaviours. Clients can request tests of their products in order to verify

the correct cross-linking of materials, the correct extrusion behaviour and

if product complies with standards. Engineering assistance is available to

maximize the results of extruder machinery. Mixer expertise includes designing

and constructing modifications to existing equipment as well as optimising

operational parameters during extrusion.
