TRANSPORT & LOGISTICS NEWS IN BRIEF

Messe Frankfurt launches ‘Hypermotion’

The global mobility system is facing a

radical process of change. Driven by

digitalisation and decarbonisation, the

boundaries between logistics, mobility,

infrastructure and transport are falling.

New, networked, integrated and inter-

modal systems are being created.

To reflect these changes and to discuss

their impact on the economy and society,

Messe Frankfurt is planning a new trade

fair with accompanying congresses

on the subjects of digitalisation, ITS

(Intelligent Transport Systems) and

intermodal systems, which will be held

in cooperation with leading German

transport and mobility associations in

Frankfurt from 20 to 22, November 2017.

Kögel’s Mega Trailer with individual

equipment

Kögel used the IAA Commercial Vehicles

2016 to showcase its Mega Trailer, which

is perfect for classic, standard tasks and

high-volume transport. The internal height

of 3 m makes it an ideal trailer for the

automotive sector. Loading and unloading

stacked pallet cages is simple, thanks to

the standard mechanical/hydraulic lifting

roof. This increases the side and rear

through-loading height to more than 3 m.

The standard Kögel integral roof

tarpaulin also guarantees improved

handling with an open roof. Thanks

to the roof straps being integrated in

the roof tarpaulin, sagging straps are

a thing of the past. This eliminates

the straps snagging on the load. It is

also equipped with the new optional

storage feature for the transport of

truck-mounted forklifts at the rear of

the trailer, as well as a receptacle for

securing chains and a storage slot for a

counterweight on the front wall.

Nooteboom launches

Manoovr MPL

The centre of attention at the

Nooteboom stand at IAA Commercial

Vehicles 2016 was its latest Manoovr

MPL semi low-loader with excavator

trough. This makes the semi low-loader

even more versatile, especially for the

transport of excavators or demolition

machinery as the boom arm can be

positioned in the trough.

The excavator trough is available as

standard on all semi low-loaders of the

Manoovr generation that have up to six

axles. Other vehicles from the Manoovr

generation can be equipped with an

excavator trough on request. The width

of the excavator trough depends on the

width of the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) has

announced that Jasper Hafkamp will be

its new executive director for the Regional

Centre Southern Africa (RCSA), effective

December 1, 2016. He will be responsi-

ble for Daimler Trucks & Buses (DT&B) in

southern Africa.

Hafkamp joined Mercedes-Benz Nederland

BV in 1995 after completing his studies in

Business Engineering at the College of Tech-

nology and Management and Organisation

at the University of Groningen. He started

within the commercial vehicle department

where he held various positions within

Marketing and Product Management for

Mercedes-Benz Vans and Trucks.

In 2008, Hafkamp became responsible

for Mercedes-Benz Truck Sales in The

Netherlands and then progressed to the

position of managing director: Mercedes-

Benz Trucks. During this period he was

able to grow the market share of Trucks in

the Netherlands from 10% in 2010 to the

current sustainable 17%. This success was

based on a structured conquest programme,

Total Cost of Ownership approach and a

further professionalisation of the Dutch

Truck dealer network. Furthermore, he

integrated Fuso Trucks sales within the

Mercedes-Benz Trucks organisation.

Hafkamp will replace Kobus van Zyl,

the current executive director for DT&B,

who is also the vice-chairman of the

Heavy Commercial Vehicle Division and

Bus Forum for the National Association

of Automobile Manufacturers of South

Africa. Van Zyl is pursuing a new career

opportunity and assignment within the

larger global Daimler organisation.

Van Zyl has been appointed as general

manager

for

National

Automotive

Industries in Saudi Arabia, a joint venture

between Mercedes-Benz Trucks and E.A.

Juffali & Brothers. His appointment is

effective October 1, 2016 and to ensure a

smooth transition, he will be available for

a handover period.

The Juffali Group is the Mercedes-Benz

appointed general distributor in Saudi Arabia

and Van Zyl will be responsible for Mercedes-

Benz Trucks, Vans, Buses and Special Trucks

as well as Western Star and Freightliner

Trucks.

reliably even in changing environmental

conditions or materials as well as with various

object detection angles. This is particularly

useful with objects that are not exactly

aligned or that are being rapidly transported.

As a result, detection errors are avoided and

complicated readjustment is eliminated.

Also with respect to the electrical con-

nections and the number of I/Os, the Leuze

ODS 10 and HT 10 sensors can be adapted to

individual application requirements, offering

optimum flexibility. Both device models also

provide an IO-Link interface ready for Indus-

try 4.0. In this way, diagnostic data can be

transferred in real time and alert the user

timeously to any impending failure, for exam-

ple excessive soiling of goods being handled

or misalignment.
