End of Year Happenings

Dolton School District 149

The Third Annual Male Youth Summit

titled

“Real Men, Real Talk—Our

Lives Matter”

was held on March

24. The event was attended by over

100 of our 7th and 8th grade young

men from S.T.E.M. Academy, the

School of Fine Arts and Creative

Communications Academy. The

purpose of the 2015 Male Youth

Summit was to empower our males to

speak with good purpose, respect their

fellow man, demonstrate pride in their

ways and actions, and strive for

greatness!

Plainfield 202

Plainfield High School band performs at the community

homecoming parade in Plainfield. The district underwent

about 10 years of tremendous growth (from 3,500 kids in

5 schools in 1990, to 29,000 kids in 30 schools now,

including four high schools)

That caused major change to the socioeconomics,

demographics and “identity” of the school district,

which serves parts of seven towns, most of which do

not really feel “connected” to Plainfield-proper.

We cannot have four homecoming parades.

Therefore, the Alumni Association worked very hard

in recent years to create one “Community” event in

which all of our high schools march, and most of our

middle schools and elementary schools.

It is now one of the biggest parades in all of Illinois

Upwards of 10,000 people turn out every year
