Interpipe declares
Iraq ambitions
Steel pipe manufacturer Interpipe is
establishing a local support team based
in Basra, following approval from South
Oil Company (SOC), one of the major
fundamental formations of Iraq National
Oil Company (INOC), as a preferred
supplier for the country.
Interpipe has appointed a new Iraq
country manager with immediate
effect, based in Basra. Following
several meetings in Iraq with South Oil
and a lengthy audit of its steel mill in
Ukraine, the approval allows Interpipe
to participate in local tenders. The
meetings in Iraq also saw a tour of the
oil fields due to the increasing need to
provide a better service of transporting
and stocking pipes from the ports.
Duncan Pell, regional director for MENA
and Asia, Interpipe ME, commented,
“The development of Interpipe in Iraq
is part of our overall growth strategy
across the wider Middle East and Africa
region. Whilst at the World Economic
Forum in Jordan, it was clear that the
potential of Iraq will be realised over
the next few years and Interpipe aims
to contribute significantly to driving
the Iraqi infrastructure, economy and
development.”
Andrey Burtsev, the company’s regional
director of market development, said,
“The approval from South Oil signifies
Interpipe’s commitment to Iraq, which
has the potential to reclaim its historical
position as one of the most prosperous
economies in the Middle East. With the
National Development Plan well under
way, we expect to see early signs of
success in Iraq from our efforts in the
latter half of 2013.”
Interpipe has also appointed a local
partner in Basra, Al Nukhba Oil Field
Services, to provide company facilities
and fulfil on-the-ground security
requirements.

Radius acquires pipe rehabilitation
specialist
Radius Systems, a UK supplier of PE
pipes and fittings to the gas and water
utilities sector, has acquired the assets
of the Subterra pipeline reparation
business from the administrators of
Daniel Contractors for an undisclosed
sum.
Subterra is a provider of polyethylene
pipe renovation solutions including
epoxy and polyurethane resins for the
spray coating of metallic pipes and
the Subline and Rolldown relining
technologies. The company operates
from two facilities in Dorset, UK.
Radius Systems CEO Andy Taylor
commented, “Subterra is our first
acquisition following the purchase of
Radius Systems by the Russia-based
Polyplastic Group in February this year.
Our new owners have had no hesitation
in supporting this transaction, which
is consistent with our agreed strategy
to complement our core pipe and
fittings business with closely associated
products, services and technologies,
and in so doing enhance our value
added to our customer base. We are
extremely pleased to add the Subterra
technologies to our portfolio, and look
forward to welcoming a skilled and
dedicated workforce into the Radius/
Polyplastic family.”
Bill Dawson, joint administrator of
Daniel Contractors Ltd and Land &
Marine Project Engineering Ltd, and
partner in Deloitte’s restructuring
services team, said, “We are pleased
to secure this deal. It will ensure that
the services provided by Subterra
continue, and helps protect the jobs
of Subterra employees. This latest
agreement means that the vast majority
of jobs at Daniel and Land & Marine
have now been safeguarded.”
The UK business will trade as part of
the RadiusPLUS service company, and
the Subterra brand will continue to be
used in connection with the pipe lining
technologies.
