The Special General Meeting

The President opened the meeting and

proposed that the numhered

recommendations of the Review

Working Group should be taken in

convenient groups with those

least~

likely to he contentious taken first and

those most likely to be contentious

taken last. This was agreed.

The meeting was then addressed hy

the Chairman of the Review Working

Group,

It

would he impossihle to summarise

here at any reasonable length the

almost six hours of lively and almost

entirely constructive debate which

followed. A relatively full report of

that dehate wi II be prepared and

circulated to all solicitors prior to the

further Special General Meeting of the

Society required to make the necessary

amendments to the Bye-Laws of the

Society to implement the policy

decisions taken.

It

is expected that this

further Special General Meeting wi II

take place next July.

The next procedural step is for the

resolutions passed at the Special

General Meeting of 7 March, 1996, to

he considered and, presumahly,

adopted hy the Council of the Law

Society at its next scheduled meeting

on 19 April, 1996.
