Six poems

Anahit Hayrapetyan

Anahit Hayrapetyan was born

in Armenia in 1981. Initially

she studied computer science

at the State Engineering

University of Armenia, then in

a World Press Photo seminar, then attended the Danish

School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus.

Her first book of poems was published by the Armenian

Center for Contemporary Experimental Art in 2002. Her

second book,

Taboo,

won the Young Writer Award of the

Writers Union of Armenia in 2005, and her latest poetry

book

Pretty

was published this year by Antares.

Her poems have appeared widely in Armenia, and her

photos have been published by National Geographic

Traveler,

Eurasianet.org

,

Armenianow.com

, Zaman,

Ogoniok, and Newsweek. In 2006, she won the President's

Prize in Armenia. FotoEvidence has just published her first

volume of photographs,

Princess to Slave,

documenting

Armenian women affected by domestic violence.
