Industrialized Magnetic

Pulse Welding and Forming

The heart of the plant – the PQF mill – will

be equipped with individual roll drive and

an all-hydraulic roll adjustment system. In

order to ensure constant premium quality,

the whole plant is monitored and controlled

by the Carta

®

technology system and the

Lasus

®

wall-thickness measuring system,

both developed by SMS Meer.

The new PQF plant forms part of a new

integrated steel works and pipe mill that

will strengthen the competitiveness of

Vallourec and Sumitomo Metals in an

expanding market. SMS Meer has already

built plants in the past for both Vallourec

and Sumitomo.

New stainless steel

material grades unveiled

Sandvik Materials Technology, Sweden,

manufactures a comprehensive range of

tubular and bar products, including new

grades, Sandvik SAF 2707 HD and Sandvik

Sanicro 25.

Sandvik SAF 2707 HD is a hyper-duplex

stainless steel, specially developed for

service in highly corrosive conditions,

such as seawater cooled

heat exchangers. It is

suited to aggressive,

chloride-containing

environments

and

displays

excellent

resistance to pitting

and crevice corrosion,

stress corrosion cracking

and general corrosion.

At the same time, it has high mechanical

strength and good weldability.

Particularly aimed at the chemical,

petrochemical and refinery industries,

Sandvik SAF 2707 HD has been developed

to meet higher industry demands on

performance whilst maintaining the reliability

and safety of equipment.

Sandvik Sanicro 25, for use in ultra-

supercritical coal fired steam boilers, is

destined for the next generation of power

stations. Designed for reheater and

superheater tubes, Sandvik Sanicro 25 is

a creep resistant austenitic material that

allows for material temperatures up to

700

º

C. The increased steam temperature

contributes to higher efficiency, lower

carbon dioxide emissions and reduced fuel

consumption.
