The heavier the load, the larger the wheel required for the

caster. The weight of the load also influences the mobility of the

wheel. The larger the wheel diameter the easier it rolls. Roller

bearings carry heavier loads. Ball bearings roll easier but carry

lesser loads. Roller or ball bearings are recommended for loads

over 400 pounds. When possible, use the largest ball bearing

wheel for the best results.

For Short travel in confined areas with hand-pushed

equipment: 3-4” diameter. For longer travel with hand-pushed

equipment: 5-6-8” diameter.

Precision Ball Bearings

— the various designs of single row

radial precision ball bearing to DIN are the highest quality type of

bearing. Wheels with these bearings have extremely low-

resistance for maximum loading.

Ball Bearings

are used where maximum rollability is required.

This type should be used for loads from 400 to 1200 pounds.

Because of the ball contact area, ball bearings are the least

frictional type available in caster wheels.

Roller Bearings

are used when greater load capabilities and

rollability are required. Hardened rollers revolving around a

hardened spanner bushing distribute the heavier load over a larger

area.

Delrin Bearings

are an impregnated Dupont plastic product

that performs efficiently in a wide temperature range. They are

durable, corrosion resistant, and require minimum lubrication even

in steam cleaning or where water or other liquids are present.

Each wheel material has certain characteristics, which will give

the best results where unusual conditions exist. For example,

where acids, oils, chemicals and other conditions harmful to rubber

are present, polyurethane, polyolefin, phenolic or steel wheels are

recommended.

In hospitals or other facilities where cart washings are required,

select nickel-plated casters with grease seals and zerk fittings. For

very frequent washings or wet environments, select stainless steel

casters.

See the TREAD MATERIAL CHART below as a guide for choosing

the proper tread material.
