#2 - Kit reagents contain sodium azide, which can react with lead or copper plumbing to form explosive metal
azides. If any liquid containing sodium azide is disposed of in the plumbing system, drains should be flushed with
water to avoid build up.
#5f, #9, 10a and 11 - The proprietary test kit is testing for a pathogenic organism (
Listeria monocytogenes
).
Although the test kit itself does not contain any pathogenic components, the enriched test samples may contain the
target organism. Therefore, it is recommended that all test samples be discarded according to standard laboratory
hazardous waste procedures. For example, samples should be exposed to flowing steam or autoclaved at 121
°
C for
15 minutes.
Handle all kit components as potentially biohazardous material. Dispose of all used components and other
contaminated materials by acceptable procedures for potentially biohazardous materials.
