Conclusion

These studies, covering an extensive variety of food and environmental matrices, indicate that this
7
alternative method is sensitive, specific, and rapid in the detection of
Salmonella
. Within the statistical
8
constraints of these studies, no differences were found between the reference culture-based methods
9
and the alternative methods using this test kit. These results indicate broad applicability of the method
10
in allowing uncontaminated food to rapidly be released from a manufacturer’s control, protecting foods
11
from entering commerce when contaminated with
Salmonella
, and also in investigating outbreaks when
12
contamination of foods does occur.
