Salt
Rheum
or
Scurvy,
Take
of
the
pokeweed,
any
time
in
summer;
pound
it,
press
out
the
juice,
and
strain
it
into
a
pewter
di^h.
Set
it
in
the
sun
till
it
becomes
a
salve,
then
put
it
into
an
earthen
mug.
Add
to
it
fresh
water
and
beeswax
sufficient
to
make
an
oint-
ment
of
common
consistence.
Simmer
the
whole
over
a
fire
till
thoroughly mixed.
When
cold,
rub
the
parts
affected.
The
patient
will
almost
imme-
diately
experience
its
good
effects,
and
the
most
obstinate
cases
will
be
cured
in
three
or
four
months.
