Bayonetta 2

There’s a reason this

puppy made our game

of the year in 2014 –

it’s an absolute belter!

Staying true to the tried and tested formula

that made the original such an interesting

proposition, Bayonetta is back with her

trademark combat moves. It’s big, absurd,

colourful and as stylish as you can get.

And what’s even better is that it comes

packaged with the first

Bayonetta,

just in

case you missed the original.

The

Wii U

Delivers

Well, after a languid start reminiscent of a Melbourne Demons’ season, theWii U

soared in 2014, delivering the best titles of its two-year lifespan. This looks set to

continue in 2015, kicking off in January with

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Here’s our pick of five of the finest that came to theWii U last year.

Mario Kart 8

If you’re not still playing

Mario Kart 8

, you’ve either

a) had your Wii U stolen,

or b) your Wii U is broken

from playing

Mario Kart 8

too much. Undoubtedly the best Mario

Kart in the franchise, MK 8 offers the

classic gameplay we know and love and

adds a healthy twist of evolution. Did we

mention how good it looks? File under

essential.

Hyrule Warriors

Blending the mythology of

Zelda with the mechanics of

Dynasty Warriors works well

here, and

Hyrule Warriors

delivers an addictive hack ‘n’ slash cum

strategy gameplay experience you’ll be

reluctant to put down. Finding yourself

in the middle of an expansive army and

chopping your way through it never gets

dull. This is a super spin-off.

Donkey Kong:

Tropical Freeze

Replete with an excellent

score, Retro Studios has

conceived an entertaining

Donkey Kong platformer with a significant

challenge factor and competent gameplay

mechanics. There are bucket loads of

secrets and collectibles to be found

in-game, and users can play as Donkey,

Diddy, Dixie and franchise debutante,

Cranky Kong.

Super Smash

Bros. Wii U

After six years, Nintendo’s

ensemble of fighting

characters return once more to the big

screen, providing yet another reason to

grab a Wii U if you haven’t already. The

rosters and stages are excellent and

eight-player Smash is a blast. You can

also use your fledgling Amiibo figurine

collection with it, too.

coming for the Wii U

this year in our

‘Look What’s Coming

This Year’ feature on
