Wire & Cable ASIA – September/October 2007

Ernest Hindle, of Marldon, UK, died

on 21

st

May, aged 82, following a six

month battle against cancer.

Mr Hindle left school at the age of 14,

but by attending night school for many

years he trained as a draughtsman,

and became a member of the Institute

of Plant Engineers, finishing his

employed career with Aerialite as chief

engineer.

His time in wire and cable

manufacturing plants led Mr Hindle

to set up Marldon (Engineering

Specialties) Ltd with John Buckley in

1966, developing a range of products,

principally hysteresis flyer pay-offs

and airwipes for cable.

The company’s portfolio widened to

cover driven pay-offs and take-ups,

chalking machines and rolling ring

traversing units.

Being fascinated by all things

mechanical and having an industrious

and social nature, Mr Hindle enjoyed

the industry which filled his working

life, took him around the world and

made him many friends.

Mr Hindle phased his retirement over

a number of years, but became a man

of full-time ‘leisure’ in 1990.

The following years were packed with

many practical projects and work on

new designs outside the wire and

cable industry.

The original company continues today

as Marldon Group Ltd.

Deyang Jiechuang Wire & Cable

Machinery Co (JCDOFAMA), China,

researches and develops wire and

cable machinery.

The company has announced that a

Type YOL 150/5 extruder ordered by

Gaon Cable Co, Korea, has been

completed and delivered to Korea via

Shanghai port. Commissioning was

scheduled to be completed by August.

The new generation lead extruder was

developed from an intermittent

extruder. The new design allows a

reduction in the consumption of lead

without compromising quality.

Due to strict control of temperature in

the production process, the pressure

and temperature for extruding remain

constant, and the difference in the

thickness of the lead layer is controlled

within a small range.

The use of a sealed system reduces

lead vapour, minimising environmental

impact.

The extruder features compact

construction and a high level of

automation, making it easy to operate

and maintain.
