6.1 A Police Officer or Firefighter who desires to work beyond the normal retirement age of 62 will
notify, in writing, his department’s Chief, through the chain of command.
6.2 The departmental Chief will review the request and make a recommendation to the Human
Resources Director.
6.3 If the Chief recommends the extension of employment beyond age 62, the recommendation
will be forwarded to the Human Resources Director. If the Chief does not recommend the
extension, the Chief will notify the employee.
6.4 The Human Resources Director will review the Chief’s recommendation and make a decision
about the extension of employment. The Human Resources Director will notify the Chief of the
decision.
6.5 While considering a decision on the extension of employment, either the Chief or the Human
Resources Director may require the employee to have a physical examination to determine fitness
for continued duty. The physician will be chosen and paid for by the City.
