Biomass fuel plant
adding solar power
Atlantic Wind & Solar
is to install a 500kW solar
energy system on the
rooftop of BioSila Canada
Corp’s biomass fuel
manufacturing plant
in Mattawa, Ontario.
The system is expected
to generate sufficient solar
electricity to power
a hundred local homes
over the next 20 years,
and will offset plant emissions
of over 10,350 tons of
CO
2
. The BioSila Complex,
which will open in 2012,
is intended to produce
252,000 tons of European-
standard, power-plant
grade, wood pellet fuel.
The company will also
install a 10MW
co-generation facility on
the site, in line with the
province’s green energy
initiative program.
The energy produced
from the solar plant will be
sold to the Ontario Power
Authority.
